The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has permitted the Hindu Education Society Kashmir to withdraw its petition challenging the rejection of its application for renewal of registration under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA), granting it liberty to approach the court again if the issue remains unresolved.

The matter came up before Justice M A Chowdhary at the Jammu wing of the High Court on November 2, 2026, in WP(C) No. 1694/2026, along with CM No. 3770/2026.

Appearing for the society, advocate Neeraj Verma submitted that the petition had been filed against the rejection of its application for renewal of FCRA registration.

However, he informed the court that the matter was under active consideration of the authorities and that the society was awaiting their decision.

In view of the developments, the counsel sought permission to withdraw the petition at this stage while retaining the liberty to initiate fresh proceedings if the cause of action continued to survive.

Court disposes of petition as withdrawn

Taking the submissions on record, Justice Chowdhary allowed the withdrawal request and disposed of the petition.

“The present petition is thus dismissed as withdrawn, with liberty as prayed for,” the court recorded in its order.

The order allows the society to approach the court again if the matter remains unresolved and the grounds for legal action continue to exist.

The Union of India and other respondents were arrayed in the case. The order did not mention any appearance by counsel for the respondents.

The court’s order did not adjudicate the merits of the society’s challenge to the rejection of its FCRA registration renewal application.
