J&K Police Charges Budgam Resident for Spreading ‘Anti-National Content’ on Social Media

JK Police Charges Budgam Resident for Allegedly Spreading Anti National Content on Social Media

The Jammu & Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) has filed a chargesheet against a social media handle for allegedly spreading “anti-national, secessionist, and pro-terrorist content.”

The chargesheet, filed on Friday before a special court in Budgam, claims that the handle ‘Lacerated Kashmir’ on X (formerly Twitter) posted content that “promotes terrorism in J&K” and spread “anti-India” views. The SIA began investigating the case in 2022.

“After a thorough technical investigation, we identified the social media handle as Irfan-Ul-Haq from Kawoosa Khalisa, Budgam,” a statement from the SIA read. The agency also said the accused had created several fake accounts under different names to hide his identity from authorities.

The SIA further stated that other accounts like ‘The Resistance Kashmir’, ‘Maimed Kashmir’, and ‘Wounded Kashmir’ were also linked to Irfan and used to promote secessionist ideas, support terrorism, and undermine the Indian government’s authority. The chargesheet also mentions that the accused showed disrespect to the Indian National Flag through his posts.

The SIA has filed charges under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.

“We are committed to taking strict action against any form of anti-national activities that threaten the integrity of India,” said an SIA spokesperson.
