The results of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections 2025 were declared on Thursday, November 6, with the Left Unity alliance securing a sweeping victory in all four key posts.

Aditi Mishra from the Left Unity won the post of President with 1,861 votes, defeating ABVP’s Vikas Patel, who secured 1,447 votes. For the Vice President’s post, K. Gopika from the Left Unity won with 2,966 votes, while ABVP’s Tanya Kumari received 1,730 votes. Sunil Yadav of the Left Unity won the General Secretary position by a narrow margin, polling 1,915 votes against ABVP’s Rajeshwar Kant Dubey, who got 1,841 votes. Danish Ali from the Left Unity won the Joint Secretary post with 1,991 votes, defeating ABVP’s Anuj Damara, who received 1,762 votes.

The main contest was between the Left Unity, comprising the All India Students’ Association (AISA), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF), and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

This year, around 9,000 students were eligible to vote for four central panel posts and 42 councillor seats across various schools. Voting took place on November 4 in two phases, with a turnout of 67%, slightly lower than last year’s 70%.

Throughout the day, the campus witnessed vibrant scenes with students chanting slogans, beating drums, and participating enthusiastically in the democratic process. The voting began at 9 a.m. and continued till 5:30 p.m., with a brief break in the afternoon.

Last year, the Left alliance had also maintained its stronghold by winning three of the top four posts, while ABVP had made a comeback after a decade by winning the Joint Secretary position.

Speaking after the victory, Left Unity’s Aditi Mishra said, “This win belongs to every student who believes in democratic values and inclusive politics. JNU has once again shown that its spirit of resistance and unity remains alive.”
