The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is set to be presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The report, submitted to Speaker Om Birla on Thursday, was adopted by the committee after incorporating amendments proposed by the ruling NDA.

Committee Chairman Jagdambika Pal stated, “A total of 44 amendments were discussed, and after six months of deliberations, 14 amendments were accepted through a majority vote. The opposition’s proposed changes were rejected, with 10 votes in favor and 16 against.”

The Waqf Amendment Bill seeks to revise the 1995 Waqf Act, which governs the management of Waqf properties in India.

However, the bill has sparked strong opposition, with critics alleging it threatens the autonomy of Waqf boards and undermines the constitutional rights of the Muslim community. Opposition MPs claim the bill is an attempt to bring Waqf properties under government control.

“This is an attack on our community’s rights. The government is trying to destroy Waqf boards,” said an opposition leader.

Meanwhile, BJP members defend the bill, arguing it aims to enhance transparency and accountability.

“These amendments will prevent misuse of Waqf properties and modernize their management,” said a BJP MP.
