The Embassy of India in Iran has issued a fresh advisory urging all Indian nationals in the country to leave immediately amid escalating protests and security concerns. In its update on January 14, the embassy reminded citizens that this follows an earlier advisory issued on January 5, 2025, and emphasized that students, pilgrims, businesspeople, and tourists should depart using all available transport, including commercial flights.

The embassy asked Indians and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise heightened caution, stay away from areas affected by demonstrations, remain in regular contact with the mission, and monitor local media closely for updates. Citizens are also advised to keep their travel and identification documents, including passports, easily accessible. The embassy assured that assistance would be provided to anyone in need.

To facilitate emergency help, the mission shared multiple contact numbers: +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, +989932179359, along with the email cons.tehran@mea.gov.in. Indians not yet registered with the embassy are urged to do so through the Ministry of External Affairs’ online portal, with families in India helping in cases of internet disruption.

The advisory comes as protests in Iran, initially sparked by economic hardships, continue to spread nationwide. Reports indicate the death toll has surpassed 2,571, with widespread clashes and a communications blackout compounding the crisis. The unrest has drawn international attention, with US President Donald Trump calling on protesters to take over local institutions, while Iranian authorities have accused foreign actors of instigating violence.

Indian nationals in Iran are strongly advised to stay alert, avoid protest sites, maintain regular contact with the embassy, keep documents ready, and register with the mission to ensure assistance during this volatile situation.
