MK Stalin Burns Copy of Delimitation Bill, Calls It ‘Black Law’ Targeting Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu CM launches protest with black flags, accuses BJP of undermining state’s rights

Tamil Nadu CM M. K. Stalin burns copy of delimitation Bill, warns it will harm state’s political representation.

M. K. Stalin on Thursday intensified his opposition to the Union government’s proposed delimitation exercise by burning a copy of the Bill and calling it a “black law” that threatens the rights of Tamil people.

The protest took place in Namakkal, where Stalin is currently campaigning. Dressed in black along with party members, he hoisted a black flag and raised slogans against the move just hours before a special session of Parliament.

“Black law will make Tamils refugees”

In a strong statement, Stalin alleged that the delimitation proposal could politically marginalise Tamil Nadu.

He said, “Today, I have reignited that fire by burning the copy of this black law and hoisting the black flag against this black law that seeks to turn Tamils into refugees in our own land.”

Calling for statewide resistance, he added, “Let the flames of resistance spread across Tamil Nadu. Let the arrogance of the fascist Bharatiya Janata Party be brought down.”

Call for united protest across Tamil Nadu

The Chief Minister had earlier urged people to participate in black flag protests across the state, warning that the delimitation exercise proposed by the BJP-led Centre could harm Tamil Nadu’s political representation.

At the protest site, slogans like “Poradavom, Velvom Ondraga” (Let us struggle and win together) were raised, signalling a broader mobilisation effort.

Reference to anti-Hindi agitation

Stalin also drew parallels with the historic Anti-Hindi agitation, saying that Tamil Nadu has previously resisted policies perceived as unfair.

He remarked that earlier resistance from the state had forced the Centre to reconsider its stance, and suggested a similar movement could emerge again.

Political tensions rise ahead of Parliament session

The protest comes amid rising tensions between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government in Tamil Nadu and the BJP-led Centre over the issue of delimitation.

Stalin has consistently argued that any change in constituency boundaries based on population could penalise southern states like Tamil Nadu, which have effectively controlled population growth.
