A 45-year-old man, identified as Yusuf, died after being allegedly beaten by a group of individuals who suspected him of being involved in cattle smuggling. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
Yusuf, a resident of Ghudpur village in Haryana’s Palwal district, was a cattle rearer and ran a milk business. Police have filed an FIR based on a complaint from Yusuf’s family, who claimed that ‘gau rakshaks’ (cow protectors) were responsible for the attack.
On Friday evening, Yusuf purchased a milch animal and its calf from Nagla village and was transporting them back to his home in a rented tempo, following behind on his bike. As they reached Mitrol village, a group of people stopped the tempo, accusing the driver of smuggling cattle. When the driver denied the accusations, the group tricked him into calling Yusuf, who was then beaten severely.
Yusuf suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The village sarpanch confirmed that Yusuf had no known disputes with anyone and was always focused on his business. Yusuf is survived by his wife and four children, and the family has requested financial assistance from the government following his death.
The body was buried late on Sunday after the FIR was registered.
