A Muslim youth named Raheem from Kolthamajal in Mangaluru, Karnataka, was brutally murdered, and his colleague injured in an attack while unloading sand in Irakodi, Bantwal. The assailants reportedly came on a bike and carried out the attack.

Raheem, who worked as a pickup driver and was also the secretary of Masjid Kolthamajlu Addoor, died at the scene. The injured youth is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru and is reported to be out of danger.

The Bantwal Rural Police have started investigating the case.

Following the incident, tensions ran high outside the hospital as angry crowds gathered. Muslim community leaders, including Nasir Lakkistar, President of the Dakshina Kannada District Waqf Advisory Committee, faced questions and demands from the crowd.

One local youth said, “We demand immediate arrest of those who carried out this attack and those who made hateful speeches in Bajpe just two days ago.”

The crowd also warned of a possible district-wide bandh (shutdown) in Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday to protest the murder.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal visited the hospital and the attack site, assessed the situation, and assured strict action.
