A hospital in Rajkot, Gujarat, is facing backlash after a video surfaced online accusing it of enrolling 350 eye surgery patients as BJP members without their consent. The controversy began when Kamlesh Thummar, a patient from Junagadh, shared a video on social media recounting his experience at Ranchhod Das Trust Hospital.
Thummar, who had undergone eye surgery, claimed that late at night, when he and other patients were asleep, individuals asked for their mobile numbers and OTPs. “I gave mine, and shortly after, I received a message saying, ‘You have become a BJP member,’” Thummar explained. He confronted the person responsible, who confirmed the enrollment into the BJP.
Thummar recorded a video of the encounter and shared it online, saying, “I was told, ‘Without this, no one can be saved.’ That’s when I decided to record the video and make it viral.”
Responding to the allegations, Shanti Badolia, an official from Ranchhod Das Hospital, said, “This person is not part of our staff. He could have been a contact of one of the patients. We will thoroughly investigate the matter.”
Gujarat BJP Vice President Gordhan Zadaphia also denied the party’s involvement. “We have not instructed anyone to enroll people into the BJP in this manner. If such activities are taking place, we will look into it and take appropriate action,” Zadaphia stated.
