Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, saying that every Indian shares the grief of the affected families.
Addressing the nation, Modi said the images of the attack had left the entire country “angry and saddened,” and stressed that the incident reflected the terrorists’ desperation at a time when peace was returning to Kashmir.
“The enemies of the region cannot tolerate progress,” he said, noting that the attack was an attempt to derail the growing stability in the Valley.
The Prime Minister also shared that several world leaders had personally reached out to him through calls, letters, and messages, condemning the attack.
“In India’s fight against terrorism, the entire world stands with 1.4 billion Indians,” he said.
Modi reassured the bereaved families that justice would be served. “The perpetrators and masterminds of this attack will face the strictest punishment,” he promised.
“Today, the world is watching, and after this terrorist attack, the entire country is speaking in one voice. The outrage that exists in our country is the same outrage felt across the world,” Modi said.
Authorities continue to maintain heightened security in sensitive areas as the investigation into the attack progresses.
