Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday walked into parliament wearing a bag which had a message written for Bangladeshi minorities, “Bangladesh ke Hindus aur Christians ke sath khade ho”( stand with the Hindus and Christians of Bangladesh).
The Wayanad MP and other Congress leaders also staged a protest outside parliament raising slogans as they voiced concerns about the minorities in Bangladesh. The ministers carried cream-coloured bags, and placards as a sign of solidarity with the minorities.
Speaking inside parliament on Monday during the zero hour, Priyanka Gandhi said, “The Government should address the issues of oppressed minorities in Bangladesh. It should engage in discussions with the Bangladeshi government and offer support to those who are suffering.”
Later, in her interaction with the media, she said that she wanted to speak about the time when the Indira Gandhi government led the nation during the Bangladesh War and emphasized that the war was based on principles.
A day earlier, Gandhi was seen wearing a bag which had “Palestine” written on it alongside a watermelon. In a video, she could be heard saying, “I have been vocal about this on my social media handles. I will stand by what I say.”
Gandhi received criticism for the choice of the Palestine handbag from the BJP. Responding to this she said, “Who decides what clothes I am going to wear?”
