Kanhaiya Lal Murder Case: Accused Mohammad Jawed Granted Bail by Rajasthan Court

Rajasthan Court Grants Bail to Mohammad Jawed in Udaipur Tailor Killing

The Rajasthan High Court granted bail to Mohammad Javed on Thursday. Javed was arrested in connection with the beheading of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, a case that garnered national attention.

A division bench consisting of Justice Pankaj Bhandari and Justice Praveer Bhatnagar granted bail to the accused on a bail bond of Rs two lakh and surety of Rs one lakh each.

Kanhaiya Lal was beheaded on June 29, 2022, by Riyaz and Ghous Mohammed. They attacked him because of his social media post supporting ex-Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Following the attack, the NIA took over the investigation from the Udaipur State police and arrested 11 people, including two Pakistani nationals. On February 13, the NIA filed a chargesheet in a special court against all the accused.

According to NIA reports, Javed played a significant role in the conspiracy to kill Kanhaiya Lal. He conducted a recce and provided information about the victim’s presence at his shop to the main killer, Riyaz. The NIA also claimed that the accused were self-radicalized, while Attari had links with a Karachi-based Dawat-e-Islami.

The NIA filed a chargesheet before the NIA Special Court in Rajasthan, naming eleven accused, including two Pakistani nationals, in connection with the brutal killing of Kanhaiya Lal Teli by two assailants on June 28, 2022.

Further investigations revealed that the accused operated as a terror-gang module. They conspired to seek revenge and were radicalized by incriminating videos, audios, and messages circulated from within and outside India.

The NIA’s press release stated, “The accused arranged deadly knives/arms and murdered Kanhaiya Lal in reaction to his Facebook post. They also attacked a co-worker in his shop in broad daylight. They filmed and released a video of the killing, aiming to strike terror among the people of India. They also recorded another threatening video, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Kanhaiya Lal’s murder was in retaliation to his social media post supporting ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The victim’s eight-year-old son shared a social media post in her support from his mobile device.

The attackers filmed the crime and shared it on social media, taking responsibility for the murder and threatening Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
