Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda and a rape convict, has been granted a 40-day parole just three months after he received a 21-day furlough. The self-styled godman walked out of Sunaria Jail in Haryana’s Rohtak on Monday morning. According to reports, this marks the 14th time he has stepped out of prison since 2017.

Officials confirmed that Ram Rahim has left for the Dera Ashram in Sirsa, Haryana.

The Dera chief was convicted in 2017 for raping two of his women followers and is serving a 20-year jail sentence. In 2019, he was also found guilty—along with three others—in the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati, who had published articles exposing abuse inside the Dera.
