RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh does not follow Hindutva politics, but works to build a strong society and nation by developing individuals. Speaking at an event celebrating 100 years of the Sangh, he said that the organisation’s real purpose is often misunderstood from the outside.

“The Sangh’s objective is individual development, because only strong individuals can build a strong society and nation,” Bhagwat said.

‘Sangh Misunderstood as Paramilitary or Service Organisation’

Addressing the audience at the “Sangh Yatra – New Horizons, New Dimensions” programme, he said that many people wrongly see the RSS as either a paramilitary or a service sector organisation. “The Sangh is a social force working beyond these boundaries,” he explained.

He added that the world now looks at India to take a leadership role again and encouraged people to contribute to society and nation-building by participating in the Sangh’s activities.

‘Devotion, Power, and Women’s Participation’

Bhagwat said that devotion to the country is essential. “The world understands power more than truth; therefore, acquiring power is essential, but its use should be restrained,” he said. On women’s role, he emphasised equality and said their participation in governance should be 50 percent, not limited to 33 percent.

He also highlighted the importance of protecting the environment, calling for coordinated policies and local involvement in conserving rivers in Uttarakhand.

‘Harmony and Social Responsibility’

On issues like reservation, classification, and a uniform civil code, Bhagwat urged society to work with honesty and harmony, overcoming divisive thinking. He said that only those who work to unite people can truly be called Hindus.

By focusing on individual growth and social cohesion, the RSS chief said that the organisation’s mission goes beyond politics, aiming to strengthen society and the nation through empowered citizens.
