Sambhal: Police Accuse SP MP Zia ur Rahman Barq, MLA’s Son Iqbal of ‘Inciting Violence’; 25 Arrested, 2,750 Unidentified Named in FIR

Police have registered 7 FIRs in connection with the Sambhal violence in connection with the survey of Jama Masjid. Police named the Samajwadi Party MP Zia ur Rahman Barq and local SP MLA Iqbal Mahmood’s son, Sohail Iqbal in the court. Police have accused them of being responsible for instigating violence. 

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said, “Six people including work and Iqbal were named in the court and 2,750 others were included but are unidentified. The statement given by Barq earlier worsened the situation.”

Twenty five people have been arrested in the case and police confirmed that it is on lookout for the unidentified individuals.

Sambhal district administration has imposed prohibitory orders and has this disallowed entrance of outsiders.

Tensions erupted when a Hindutva mob accompanied the survey chanting the “Jai Shree Ram” slogan. Soon after, violence broke out.

The death toll has risen to five people and many were injured.
