Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has lauded Deepak Akki Kumar, a gym trainer from Uttarakhand, for his courageous act in defending a Muslim shop owner from an alleged attack by Bajrang Dal members. In recognition of his bravery, Dr. Ansari announced a personal cash award of ₹2 lakh, to be paid from his own salary over the next four months.
Describing Deepak’s actions as a powerful stand against the “poison of hatred” spreading in the country, the minister said, “When efforts to divide us continue unabated, the example of brotherhood, love, and humanity set by Deepak has compelled the entire nation to pause and reflect.” He said that though the reward may be modest, it is a heartfelt salute to Deepak’s courage and a gesture to boost his morale, adding, “This sends a clear message: the soul of Hindustan is not hatred, but love.”
Dr. Ansari highlighted the symbolic significance of Deepak openly identifying himself as “Mohammed Deepak” while confronting the assailants. “By declaring ‘I am Deepak Mohammad,’ he brought out the true beauty of this country and delivered a resounding slap to those who build their politics on hate,” he said. The minister also linked Deepak’s bravery to a revival of India’s true spirit of freedom, contrasting it with the colonial mindset that once divided the nation. “Our fight is not with any fellow Indian, but with that British-era poison of division,” he added.
Dr. Ansari further announced that Deepak would be formally invited to Jharkhand, where he would personally honour him. “His actions prove that love always triumphs over hatred,” the minister said. “The blood of a true Indian flows with love, not hate. Deepak’s courage will inspire generations.”
