Hyderabad BJP MLA T. Raja Singh has called for an inquiry into the funds spent by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the upkeep of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
In a letter to Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Goshamahal legislator sought details on how much taxpayer money has gone into maintaining the site. He asked for a year-wise breakdown of expenses on maintenance, security, and other related costs.
Singh further questioned why public funds were being used to preserve the tomb of a ruler who, according to him, was responsible for temple destruction, the killing of Hindu kings, and the suppression of Indian culture.
“Not a single rupee should be spent on the tomb of a tyrant who inflicted suffering on our ancestors,” he added.
The BJP leader, known for his hardline rhetoric, urged the government to stop any further spending on the site, arguing that it does not align with India’s cultural heritage and history of valor. He also attached images to his letter, which he claimed highlight Aurangzeb’s alleged “dark history.”
This demand comes amid a broader political discourse on historical narratives and the legacy of Mughal rulers in India.
