Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday strongly urged students to embrace the values of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Periyar, and reject what he described as “divisive ideologies like that of Nathuram Godse.”

Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebration of Jamal Mohamed College in Tiruchirappalli, Stalin said, “Students should never follow the path of Godse, but instead follow the path of Ambedkar, Periyar, and Gandhi.”

Praising the college’s founders N.M. Khajamian Rowther and M. Jamal Mohamed Sahib, Stalin acknowledged their contributions to uplifting the marginalized and fostering communal unity.
“They followed Gandhiji’s ideals and dedicated themselves to the betterment of society,” he said.

The Chief Minister used the platform to reaffirm his government’s commitment to social justice, education, and minority rights.

“Our Dravidian Model government is rooted in self-respect, unity, and political awareness,” Stalin said.

“When we stand united, no one can defeat us politically.”

He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring political rights for the Muslim community, and announced plans to distribute 20 lakh laptops to students across the state to bridge the digital divide in education.

Stalin, who is on a two-day visit to Tiruvarur district, also led a grand roadshow in the evening. A major highlight was the unveiling of a life-size bronze statue of former CM M. Karunanidhi at the railway roundabout — a tribute organized by the local DMK unit.

He later visited his ancestral home on Sannathi Street for an overnight stay.

On Thursday, the Chief Minister is scheduled to inaugurate new infrastructure projects and distribute welfare assistance to thousands of beneficiaries at a government function in S.S. Nagar, reflecting the DMK’s continuing outreach to communities across the state.

The visit will conclude with his return to Chennai via Thanjavur.
