Tech Content Creator Shahrukh Khan, hailing from Bihar, Patna shared an incredible story about how he found his two lost phones in Delhi’s Jama Masjid during Ramadan last year.
According to Shahrukh, he was able to locate his lost Apple iPhone 13 and Xiaomi Civi 2 due to technological safeguards he had installed in his phone.
In a series of posts on X, Shahrukh recounted the entire situation.
“On April 15th, 2023, my wife and I went to Jama Masjid for iftar. Due to Ramadan, there was a large crowd. We had three phones with us – Apple iPhone 13, Xiaomi Civi 2, and Redmi K50 Ultra. I kept all these phones in my side bag, unaware that a disaster was about to happen.”
Soon, he discovered that the compartment in his bag containing the iPhone and Xiaomi had been tampered with, and the devices were missing. “While exiting Jama Masjid gate no. 1, I noticed that the chain on my side bag was open.”
“When I checked, two of my phones were stolen. The Apple iPhone 13 and Xiaomi CIVI 3 were both gone,” he said in his post.
While speaking with TOP, Shahrukh acknowledged that his carelessness also had a role to play in the phones being stolen. The couple did not receive much help from the guards either.
When he tried calling his iPhone number, it was switched off. However, fortunately, the Xiaomi Civi 2 was still operational.
Thanks to its “Shutdown Confirmation” feature, which required a password for the device to shut down, which according to Shahrukh helped him in retrieving the device.
The tech influencer then explained that there’s a setting option in Xiaomi CIVI 2 called “Shutdown Confirmation” which requires a password from the user before turning the phone off and before putting it on flight mode.
“The shutdown confirmation feature is unfortunately not available on Indian smartphones. Xiaomi CIVI 2 was launched in China only, that’s why it has that feature”, he explains.
Using the “Find My Device” function on the Xiaomi website, Shahrukh was able to locate his missing phones, which indicated that it was still inside Jama Masjid.
“After tapping on Play Sound, the Xiaomi CIVI 2 started ringing loudly. The thieves couldn’t silence it no matter what,” Shahrukh said.
As the phone began ringing loudly, he was also calling that number simultaneously. Finally, a man named Saurav Srivastav answered his call. He asked Shahrukh to meet him near gate no. 2 of Jama Masjid.
“When I met him, he returned both of my phones. He told me that he found my phone somewhere on the ground. I took my phone, thanked him, and didn’t question him much,” Shahrukh added.
After the phones were recovered, Shahrukh highlighted several other things that the thieves could have done with stolen devices. They could have removed the SIM cards from the phones, but fortunately, It didn’t happen in his case, bringing him a moment of relief.
Reflecting on the incident, Shahrukh shared his feelings on X, saying, “Even though we got our phones back, that day still haunts us. It was pure horror. With some luck, quick thinking, patience, and the help of Allah, we were able to get them back. If the thieves were more intelligent, we would have lost them,” Shahrukh wrote on X.
Shahrukh shared, “When my wife saw Saurav, she suspected him of being the thief. However, I told her not to think too much because, to us, he is the one who returned our phone. So let it go.” He added, “My wife prayed every moment after the theft, and her prayers were answered. We got both phones back.” Now, for added security, Shahrukh carries his phone in a fanny pack worn across his chest instead of keeping it in the side bags.
Since being shared on X, Shahrukh’s post has received over 2 million views. People shared their thoughts in the comments section of the post.
