A Kashmiri man, Syed Hussain Shah, was killed in the deadly attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday, which claimed the lives of more than 25 people. Shah, a local resident from Ashmukam near Pahalgam, worked as a horse rider, offering tours to tourists in the area.

His father, Syed Haider Shah, spoke to media, sharing the heartbreaking details. He said, “On the day of the attack, my son had gone to Pahalgam to work. At 3 PM, we learned about the attack in Basran. We tried calling him, but his phone was switched off. By 4:30 PM, his phone turned on, but no one answered. We went to the police station and filed a report, then returned home. Later, we found out that he had been attacked.”

With tears in his eyes, Syed Haider Shah added, “He was the oldest and the only one earning in the family. He’s gone now. What can we say? We want justice. Why did they do this? He was innocent, and he was killed for no reason.”

Eyewitnesses Say Hussain Tried to Stop Attackers

Eyewitnesses have shared that Syed Hussain Shah was in the Basran area, guiding tourists on horseback when the attack happened. According to reports, when the assailants opened fire on innocent people, Shah tried to stop them, saying, “These are guests of Kashmir. They are innocent. Don’t kill them.” However, the attackers ignored his plea. Shah reportedly tried to wrestle a rifle from one of the assailants, but was shot and killed in the process.

Details of the Attack

The Pahalgam attack left 26 people dead. Initial investigations suggest that three to four assailants, armed with AK-47 rifles, carried out the shooting.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reached the site and is collecting witness statements. Forensic teams are gathering critical evidence, including bullet casings, to aid in the investigation.
