Three Rohingya Muslims, including two minor girls and a 31-year-old man, were arrested in Kolkata on Saturday morning for entering India and attempting to travel to Kashmir.

According to the authorities, the incident occurred when a ticket examiner at Sealdah railway station noticed the trio acting suspiciously across multiple platforms on Friday night. Unable to produce valid tickets, they were handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and later to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further questioning.

During interrogation, the 31-year-old man, identified as Abdul Rahman, said he had entered India from Bangladesh around five to six years ago. He had been residing in Kashmir as a labourer. Abdul claimed that he was taking the two minors, both around 12 years old, to Kashmir under the pretext of work.

The three individuals are originally from Myanmar’s Rakhine State and had been living in a refugee camp in Bangladesh before crossing the India-Bangladesh border into India.

The GRP said that Abdul Rahman may be part of a larger human trafficking operation, with Bengal serving as a transit point for trafficking minors to Jammu and Kashmir. I

The two minor girls have been sent to a shelter home, while Abdul Rahman remains in police custody.
