Former US president Donald Trump has promised to defund schools that teach things like gender ideology and critical race theory, if he is re-elected this coming November.
Speaking at Turning Point Action’s “The People’s Convention” in Michigan on Saturday (June 15), Trump said he would further cut funding to federal schools that mandate vaccines and masks.
“On day one, I will sign a new executive order to cut federal funding for any school promoting critical race theory, transgender ideology, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content to our children,” said Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
“And I will not give one penny to any school that has a vaccine mandate or a mask mandate,” he stated, adding that he will also “protect women’s sports from the inclusion of males”.
Trump further stressed upon the importance education, as a top priority in his campaign. He had previously announced plans to “dismantle” the Department of Education, modify school curricula, and allow the election for school principals.
He also pledged support for the Second Amendment, which guarantees an individual’s right to own a gun.
Trump on gender-affirming care and LGBT rights
Former president Trump accused Democrats of imposing the “liberal indoctrination of America’s youth” and vowed to reverse President Joe Biden’s administration’s expansion of Title IX, which prohibits federally funded schools from restricting transgender students’ access to bathrooms, locker rooms, and pronouns that align with their identities.
He also stated that he would ban doctors from providing gender-affirming care and prevent federal agencies from promoting “the concept of sex and gender transition at any age”.
Previously, in January, he referred to the promotion of the LGBTQ agenda as a form of “child abuse” and outlined a strategy to end what he described as “chemical, physical, and emotional mutilation of our youth”.
