Umar Ansari, the son of Mukhtar Ansari, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly submitting forged documents in court to recover properties seized by the government.
The Ghazipur Superintendent of Police said the properties were confiscated under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act. A petition had been filed seeking to release these properties, which belonged to Mukhtar Ansari, who died of a cardiac arrest in a Banda hospital earlier this year.
The police alleged that Umar Ansari tried to gain illegally by submitting forged documents, reportedly containing fake signatures of his mother, Afshan Ansari. Afshan is currently absconding and has a reward of ₹50,000 on her head.
After discovering the fraud, the police registered a case against Umar at Mohammadabad police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Umar Ansari was arrested by a police team from Ghazipur in Lucknow, and investigations are ongoing.
