Umar Khalid, an accused in a case related to the “conspiracy” behind the Delhi riots, has been granted interim bail by Karkardooma Court. The bail is valid for seven days, from December 28 to January 3, allowing him to attend his cousin’s wedding.
Khalid had sought 10 days’ bail to participate in his cousin brother and sister’s wedding ceremonies. The court, however, granted a shorter period with certain conditions.
During the hearing, Khalid’s lawyer argued, “The wedding is a close family function, and he wishes to attend it as part of his right to family life.”
The court, while granting the bail, stated, “This is strictly conditional bail for attending the weddings, and the accused must adhere to all the imposed terms.”
Khalid has been in custody since September 2020 under charges linked to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the Delhi riots conspiracy case.
