A video of a Muslim man offering Namaz inside a government hospital in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked controversy after going viral on social media. While the prayer lasted no more than 20 minutes, Hindutva groups criticized the act, calling it an attempt to assert religious dominance.
Reacting to the incident, BJP MLA Ketki Singh made a controversial statement, urging Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to establish a separate ward for Muslims in government hospitals.
“Muslims have a problem with Hindu festivals like Holi, Ram Navami, and Durga Puja. Probably, they also have a problem getting treated alongside Hindus. I will request Maharaj ji (CM Yogi Adityanath) to allocate a separate ward for Muslims so that they are treated separately,” said Singh.
She further added, “Who knows what will happen if they spit on us? We must ensure our safety.”
Her remarks have triggered public outrage, with many accusing her of spreading hate and polarizing the community.
Despite the backlash, several Hindutva organizations supported her stance. Hindu Vahini leader Hridesh Sharma criticized the Muslim man’s prayer, saying:
“The administration has passed a rule that no new practice should be started. Offering prayers within the premises is unacceptable.”
Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr. Naveen Jain confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify the man and the staff present during the incident.
“Namaz should be offered in a mosque,” said Dr. Jain, indicating that the hospital may take action against those who allowed the prayer.
The BJP MLA’s comments and the hospital’s response have drawn strong criticism from social media users and civil society. Many expressed shock over the incident being framed as an attempt at religious dominance.
A user on X (formerly Twitter) commented, “Instead of improving hospital infrastructure, the BJP is stirring unnecessary controversy to polarize society.”
