A principal and a teacher from a government primary school in Lachhan Nagar, Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, have been booked under the SC/ST Act after allegedly assaulting a Dalit student. The incident, which occurred on September 20, 2024, came to light after the boy’s family approached the court due to inaction from local authorities.

The Class 5 student, Kamal, confronted principal Durgesh Kumar and teacher Sandeep Kumar about their late arrival to school, reminding them of their reprimand when he was late. This allegedly enraged the educators, leading them to use casteist slurs and physically assault him. Kamal was punched in the stomach, causing severe swelling in his intestines, as confirmed by medical reports.

Kamal’s mother, Rani, said that her son returned home in tears and narrated the ordeal. When she tried to address the issue at the school, the teachers allegedly insulted and pushed her out. Frustrated by the lack of action from the police despite multiple complaints, Rani sought intervention from the local court, which ordered the FIR.

SHO Mukul Prakash Verma confirmed that an FIR has been registered under charges of causing hurt, intentional insult, and the SC/ST Act.

Rani has also accused the teachers of caste-based discrimination and alleged that local authorities colluded to delay justice.
