The district administration in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh said it demolished an “illegal property” belonging to Sabroz, nephew of Chhangur Baba alias Jalaluddin, who is accused of running a large-scale religious conversion racket. The demolition took place on Saturday in Rehra Mafi village under Gaindas Bujurh police station limits, with a heavy police force deployed to oversee the operation.

Officials said the house was built on community land without permission. They said that several notices were sent to Sabroz to remove the structure, but when he did not comply, the administration moved ahead with demolition. Circle Officer Raghavendra Pratap said, “The construction was found illegal, and under police supervision, bulldozer action was carried out by the administration.”

Sabroz’s uncle, Chhangur Baba, is accused of coercing people to convert to Islam through financial offers, promises of marriage, and job opportunities. According to the authorities, the network was uncovered during investigations into the disappearance of two sisters from Agra and is said to operate across six states.

Authorities have said that they also found possible links to foreign countries like Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Turkey. The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested Jalaluddin and his aide Neetu alias Nasreen for further investigation.

The demolition forms part of the Yogi Adityanath government’s “efforts to crack down on properties acquired illegally”. Officials said that Chhangur Baba’s residence stood on nearly one acre of encroached land. “These actions aim to financially and psychologically weaken those involved in such crimes,” an official said.
