A 26-year-old man named Mohammad Naveed, also known as Qasim Pathan, has been arrested in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after a woman filed a complaint accusing him of sexually exploiting her over two years and pressuring her to convert to Islam.
According to the police, the woman said that Naveed pretended to be a Hindu by using the name “Shiv Verma” on Instagram and wore religious symbols like a tilak and a sacred thread to gain her trust. She alleged that he promised to marry her and regularly visited her rented home, where he had sexual relations with her and recorded objectionable videos to threaten her.
The woman further claimed that he pressured her to convert and assaulted her when she refused, which led to a miscarriage when she was three months pregnant. She also said she had seen photos and videos of other Hindu women on his phone.
A case has been registered against Naveed and five others — Kaif, Akil, Alam, Uzma, and Shaman — under charges related to rape, forced abortion, and unlawful religious conversion.
Naveed was arrested on Saturday night, and the investigation is ongoing.
