An Uttar Pradesh police constable, Yakoob, was shot in the head and died from a bullet “accidentally” fired from the jammed pistol of Sub-Inspector (SI) Rajeev during a raid to arrest suspects of cow slaughter in the Aligarh district last night.
According to the police, they received information that a suspect from Bulandshahr, Gokshi, was heading their way. Immediately, a police team and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) were put on high alert. Before the suspects could be arrested, a mishap occurred when a pistol was “accidentally fired” during an attempt to unlock it, hitting a Sub-Inspector in the abdomen and a constable in the head, resulting in his death. The incident took place around 9-10 pm in Gavana, Aligarh.
SSP Sanjeev Suman stated, “The incident occurred late at night, around 1 AM, when a joint team of police were searching for suspects in Gokashi. During the search, in an attempt to unlock a stuck pistol by an inspector, accidentally a bullet was fired, which hit Chief Constable Yakub (SOG), after which he was immediately sent to the hospital for treatment, where the doctors declared him dead.”
The family of the deceased constable is struggling to understand the official explanation, finding it difficult to believe that the bullet pierced the SI’s abdomen and then hit Constable Yakoob in the head.
