Three people from the Dalit community were injured during a wedding clash in Madakarimupr village under Khatauli Police Station jurisdiction, Muzaffarnagar, police said on Monday. The clash allegedly occurred when some upper-caste men objected to the groom mounting a horse, a traditional practice.

Circle Officer Ramashish Yadav reported that the fight started when the groom’s party played “casteist” songs during the horse mounting ceremony. However, the groom’s side claimed in their complaint that the upper-caste individuals objected to the Dalit groom mounting the horse, asserting that Dalits do not have the right to do so.

The wedding party was reportedly attacked with sharp weapons, sticks, and guns. Several guests, including the groom’s brother, sustained injuries in the attack, according to the FIR.

Police have registered a case against eight individuals under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and SC/ST Act and have arrested two suspects. Security has been deployed in the village to prevent any further incidents.
