In Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, a Hindutva mob led by a VHP leader barged into a house and assaulted members of the Christian community.
The incident took place on Friday, 5th July, when prayers were organized in the house. The members including women were assaulted over allegations of forced conversion.
During the scuffle between VHP members and community members, a man was injured and a woman’s clothes were torn who were later arrested by the police alongside others. The Mathura Gate police team arrived at the spot and arrested 20 people.
DSP Sunil Sharma said, “A complaint was received that people had gathered at a house in RIICO area for religious conversion following which some people have been detained and are being questioned. The matter is being further investigated.”
VHP’s District President, Lakhan Singh, told the media they received information that forced conversions are happening in a house here.
He added that the Christian missionaries were luring Hindus to convert to Christianity. When they sent a VHP member to the house, a woman claimed they were running a library there, but a religious conversion event was actually taking place. The team then informed the police about the incident and demanded action in the matter.
Earlier this month, on July 3 in Mumabai’s Prabhadevi, BJP Mahim assembly President, Akshata Tendulkar barged into a Christian prayer meeting and abused the participants over similar allegations.
