Gulbarga, April 2, 2025: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Gulbarga, Karnataka, organized a powerful protest today against the Waqf Amendment Bill, which was recently introduced in Parliament. The bill has been widely criticized as unconstitutional and an attack on the rights of the Muslim community.

The protest began at 12:30 PM in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Gulbarga, where protesters expressed their anger by tearing copies of the Waqf Amendment Bill. They condemned it as a violation of fundamental rights and called for its immediate withdrawal. The demonstration showcased strong unity and determination, as the crowd demanded justice and protection for their rights.

SDPI leaders have strongly accused the bill of being an attempt to interfere with Muslim community properties, posing a significant threat to their ownership and management. They oppose the bill, asserting that it undermines the rights of Muslims and challenges the integrity of their community.

“The BJP and the Modi government’s Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 is a direct attack on Muslim rights, trampling Articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution,” said SDPI Gulbarga. The party believes that, under the pretext of curbing corruption, the bill specifically targets Waqf properties, threatening their rightful ownership and control.

SDPI also accused the BJP of focusing on its Hindutva agenda, despite claiming to care for the 14% Muslim population. They further pointed out the struggles of Hindu women, citing RBI gold loan data which shows that many are forced to pawn their mangalsutras for survival.

“We will reject this bill just as we defeated the CAA, NRC, and Kisan laws. The fight for our constitutional rights is non-negotiable. We stand united, firm, and resolute in defending our rights and our community’s future,” the statement concluded.

The protest was led by Syed Aleem Ilahi of SDPI Gulbarga, Karnataka.
