West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Left parties and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a Guru Purnima event at Kolkata’s Rabindra Sadan.
Addressing the gathering, Adhikari alleged that the Communist parties were influenced by foreign ideology and foreign powers during their 34-year rule in the state. He also targeted the TMC, calling it “Jamati Trinamool” and claiming that its style of politics had come to an end.
“The dream of those Jamaatis who wanted a Greater Bangladesh has been defeated. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new Bengal will be built,” Adhikari said.
Calls for action against ‘land jihad’ and ‘love jihad’
The Chief Minister also called for preventing what he described as “land jihad” and “love jihad” in the state. He said West Bengal had entered a new phase and stressed the need to strengthen law and order and curb illegal activities.
“Our government is committed to strengthening law and order, taking action against illegal activities, and ensuring the overall development of Bengal,” Adhikari said.
He also appealed to the people to maintain social harmony and contribute to the state’s development.
BJP forms government in West Bengal
Adhikari’s remarks come months after the BJP ended the Trinamool Congress’ 15-year rule by securing a decisive victory in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections. The BJP formed its first government in the state in May.
