Yet Another Raid in J&K: Handwara Police Crack Down on Literature Linked to Maududi, Jamaat-e-Islami

Maududi books raided again compressed

Police in Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir, have conducted thorough checks at several bookshops to prevent the circulation of banned literature linked to Jamaat-e-Islami, an official statement said.

The operation focused on “sensitive areas” like Kralgund, Villgam, Qalamabad, and Handwara town. During the search, multiple copies of “banned books were seized, which police stated violated legal regulations”.

“Strict action is being taken against those found in possession of such material,” the statement added.

Police said that teams carried out the searches systematically, warning bookshop owners against stocking, selling, or distributing banned literature. “They were also made aware of the legal consequences of engaging in such activities and instructed to follow all guidelines strictly,” the statement said.

The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any sale or distribution of prohibited books to the nearest police station.

Earlier, on Friday, Jammu and Kashmir said that they had seized 668 books linked to a banned organization during a search operation in Srinagar. The police claimed the books promoted the ideology of the banned group.
