Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav recently announced the renaming of 11 villages in Shajapur district that had names associated with the Muslim community. The Chief Minister stated that the names were changed to reflect the sentiments of the villagers and based on demands from local representatives.
Speaking at a public gathering in Kalapipal, Dr. Yadav said, “When there is no Mohammad in Mohammadpur Machhnai, why retain this name? From now on, it will be called Mohanpur.”
He also renamed Bhavna Hussainpur to Bhavna Ram, saying, “Why continue with the name Bhavna Hussainpur when there is no Hussain or Muslim in the village?”
Dr. Yadav said that the decision was made after villagers expressed their concerns about certain names. “When people raised concerns that some names were displeasing, I felt it was my responsibility to address them,” he said.
Other villages renamed include Ghatti Mukhtiyarpur, now called Ghatti, and Hajipur, which has been changed to Heerapur. Similarly, Shekhpur Gondi is now Awadhpuri, Khalilpur has been renamed Rampur, and Nipaniya Hisamuddin is now Nipaniya Dev.
Last week, the Chief Minister had also announced the renaming of three villages in Ujjain district. He had declared that Gajnikhedi Panchayat would now be called Chamunda Mata village, Jahangirpur would be known as Jagdishpur, and Maulana village would be renamed Vikram Nagar.
“The names of villages and towns should align with the sentiments of the people living there,” Dr. Yadav said.
