A complaint has been filed against Shamita Yadav, widely known by her online moniker Ranting Gola, for her social media commentary following the deadly Pahalgam attack. Yadav, known for her short, sharp political commentary videos on Instagram and X, questioned the government’s handling of the incident and the growing use of sedition laws to silence dissent.

The complaint was filed by advocate Amita Sachdeva, who accused Yadav of spreading “anti-Bharat propaganda,” insulting the Manusmriti, and amplifying content that was shared by a Pakistani social media account. “Her statements not only hurt religious sentiments but also raise concerns of coordinated narratives against India’s sovereignty and national security,” Sachdeva said in a public statement.

“This is not just about free speech—it’s about misuse of social platforms to undermine Bharat, insult sacred scriptures, and embolden hostile foreign voices,” she added, urging authorities to take prompt action.

In her recent video, Yadav had remarked, “Is asking questions from the government sedition and provocative?”

“The government and the country are two different things.”

Her remarks appeared to address the increasing number of sedition cases being filed against critics in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, including against professor Dr. Madri Kakoti and singer Neha Singh Rathore.

Yadav has not yet responded formally to the complaint.
