Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday said that his government had recovered more than 9,000 acres of land from what he described as “land jihadis.” Speaking at the inauguration of a new BJP office in Roorkee, he claimed that strict action was being taken against illegal land encroachments and religious conversions in the state.

Dhami said, “More than 9,000 acres of land has been freed from ‘land jihadis’, 250 illegal madrasas have been sealed, and over 500 illegal structures have been demolished. The work is still continuing.” He added that no one would be allowed to occupy government land “by placing green, blue, or red sheets over it.”

The chief minister also said that his government had launched ‘Operation Kalanemi’ to identify and take action against people pretending to be Hindu seers and defaming the Sanatan faith. He added that the state government had recently decided to abolish the Madrasa Board through the Minority Education Act. Once the law comes into effect on July 1, 2026, all madrasas will follow the curriculum of the state education board.

Talking about the Uniform Civil Code, Dhami said that it was not made to target any particular community. “The UCC is for equality among all citizens,” he said.

Dhami said that his government was committed to ensuring that the state’s demography remained unchanged and that peace and law would be maintained strictly.
