A student activist at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was reportedly attacked by a group of seven people, including four identified individuals, in the library parking area on the evening of November 5, 2025. The victim, Amzad Ali, a second-year law student and resident of Ambedkar Hall, alleged that the attackers fired a shot at him and attempted to abduct him.

According to Amzad’s complaint, the incident took place around 5 p.m. as he parked his scooter and walked towards the library. He claimed that four known students, along with three others who could not be identified, confronted him, abused him verbally, and physically assaulted him. One of the attackers allegedly brandished a country-made pistol and fired a shot that narrowly missed him. During the scuffle, his wristwatch was reportedly snatched.

Amzad said that he had been threatened by the same group for months due to his involvement in student activism, particularly during a previous sit-in protest. “They had loitered near my hostel with weapons, issuing death threats and planning to eliminate me,” he told authorities. A complaint has been filed against the four named students and three unidentified accomplices. Inspector Pankaj Mishra confirmed that the matter is under investigation.

However, the university proctorial team and police investigation have not confirmed claims of firing or an attempted abduction. Deputy Proctor Prof. Hashmat Ali said the incident arose from a dispute between students and that both parties have filed complaints. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and investigations are ongoing.
