A woman doctor in Uttar Pradesh has been booked for posting what police described as an objectionable video about the December 6 demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya. Police said the video was uploaded on a day when social media activity was being closely monitored because of security alerts.
According to officials, Dr Sheeba Khan, a BAMS practitioner from the Mawana area, was taken into custody for breach of peace and later released on a personal bond. Mawana station house officer Poonam Jadon said the doctor had uploaded an edited audio video clip related to the Babri mosque case, and authorities viewed it as an attempt to disturb communal harmony. A complaint was filed and a case was registered under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Police picked her up from her clinic in Abdullapur on Sunday. Sub divisional magistrate Santosh Kumar Singh said she was produced before a court under preventive action and then released on bond. He added that a technical examination of the video is underway and further legal steps will depend on that report.
Officials said vigilance has been intensified in the area to stop rumours and avoid tension. December 6 marks the anniversary of the 1992 demolition of the 16th century Babri mosque by kar sevaks. Hindu organisations observe the day as Shaurya Diwas, while Muslim groups mark it as Black Day or Youm e Gham.
