Anganwadi Worker Dies Protecting 20 Children from Bee Attack in Madhya Pradesh, Hailed as ‘Hero of Humanity’

Anganwadi Worker Dies Saving 20 Children from Bees in MP

In Neemuch district, Madhya Pradesh, Kanchan Bai Meghwal, a 40-year-old Anganwadi cook from Madavada Panchayat, lost her life while saving nearly 20 children from a sudden bee attack at the Ranpur village Anganwadi centre on February 2, 2026.

According to reports, a massive swarm of bees descended on the children as they played outside the centre. Without thinking of her own safety, Kanchan Bai wrapped each child in tarpaulins and mats and rushed them inside, using her own body as a shield. She was stung hundreds of times before villagers could reach her. Though she was immediately taken to the Community Health Centre by Constable Kalunath and pilot Rajesh Rathore, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Kanchan Bai was not only an Anganwadi cook but also president of the Jai Mata Di Self-Help Group and the sole support for her paralysed husband, Shivlal. She leaves behind a son and two daughters. Villagers expressed grief and fear, noting that a large beehive near the centre’s only handpump still poses a threat. They have demanded its removal and financial assistance for her bereaved family.

Online, people praised her bravery and called for support for her family, highlighting the meagre salary of Anganwadi workers (around Rs 4,250 per month) and urging the government to provide financial security and recognition for her sacrifice.

Kanchan Bai Meghwal is being remembered as a “Hero of Humanity” and a martyr who gave her life to protect children who were not even her own.
