A controversy has surfaced in Gayatrinagar society in Gujarat’s Gorwa area after Hindu residents alleged that two houses were transferred without permission under the Disturbed Areas Act.

On Friday, members of local Hindu organisations and a Sangharsh Samiti took out a protest march to the District Collector’s office and submitted a memorandum demanding strict enforcement of the law. Protesters raised slogans and claimed that the society has a Hindu majority and that two residential properties were allegedly sold to non-Hindu persons without following due procedure.

According to residents, the property owners initially told neighbours that the houses had been given on rent. However, locals later suspected that the properties had actually been sold. “We were informed that the houses were rented out, but later we came to know that a sale may have taken place. If this has happened without permission under the Disturbed Areas Act, it is a serious matter,” a member of the Sangharsh Samiti alleged.

The memorandum submitted to the Collector sought an official inquiry into whether the transactions violated provisions of the Disturbed Areas Act. Protesters demanded that if any rules were breached, strict legal action should be taken against those responsible.

Residents also said they had earlier approached the Municipal Commissioner with their concerns but alleged that no action was taken. “We had already raised the issue with the Municipal Commissioner, but when nothing happened, we were forced to approach the district administration,” a local resident said.

The district authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the allegations.
