An 11 year old girl was seriously injured in an acid attack in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district, leaving the local community shocked. The incident took place on Tuesday morning in Sangamner taluka when the Class 6 student was returning home after school.
According to police, the girl, a student of a school in Wadgaon Pan village, was walking back home when an unidentified person suddenly appeared and threw acid on her face before fleeing the spot.
In her initial statement, the survivor said she did not recognise the attacker. “He came suddenly in front of me and threw acid. I could not understand anything,” she told authorities.
Locals Rush to Help as Girl Suffers Serious Injuries
Hearing her screams, local residents rushed to the spot and immediately helped her. She was taken to Pravaranagar Hospital in Loni, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Doctors said the girl has suffered serious injuries, particularly to her face and right eye, and her condition is being closely monitored.
A police official said, “The victim sustained severe burns. She is under medical care and we are ensuring she gets the best possible treatment.”
Police Launch Manhunt, Motive Still Unclear
Police have started an investigation and are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the accused. A manhunt has been launched, but the motive behind the attack is still not known.
“The motive of the attack is unclear. We are trying to arrest the person behind the crime at the earliest,” a police officer said.
Officials added that the accused is believed to be from another village, but no confirmation has been made yet.
Survivor from Economically Weak Background
The survivor comes from a poor family. Her father had passed away earlier, and she lives with her mother and grandparents. Her mother works as a daily wage labourer to support the household.
Police said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses and have urged people to share any information that could help trace the attacker.
