Rape Survivor Tries to Set Herself on Fire Outside Gurugram Police Commissioner’s Office, Alleges Inaction

Gurugram survivor attempts self-immolation outside police office, alleges inaction in rape case.

A rape survivor allegedly attempted to set herself on fire outside the office of the Gurugram Police Commissioner on Thursday, claiming that police had failed to act in her case even after several months.

According to reports, the woman arrived at the commissioner’s office carrying a bottle of petrol and a matchbox. She poured fuel on herself at the entrance, but police personnel present at the spot intervened quickly and stopped her from lighting the match. Officers also tried to calm her down as the situation unfolded.

Videos circulating on social media show the tense moments leading up to the incident. While the visuals are not clear, the woman can be heard screaming in distress.

“Death is the only way out,” survivor says in video

In a video recorded before reaching the office, the survivor alleged that she was raped by a man from Panipat and had filed an FIR at Sector 51 police station. She claimed that despite four months passing, no arrest had been made.

“The accused is still roaming freely. His family and their associates are threatening me and my family to withdraw the case,” she said.

Expressing frustration over the alleged inaction, she added, “Now death is the only way out. I am going to the CP office to commit suicide.”

Police response remains unclear

There was no immediate detailed response from the police after the incident. Vikas Kumar Arora, the Gurugram Police Commissioner, could not be reached for comment.

In a brief official statement later, Gurugram Police did not clearly confirm or deny the incident but said that the accused in the case would be arrested soon.
