NEET UG 2026 Cancelled After “Guess Paper” Leak Allegations; Fresh Dates to Be Announced

The National Testing Agency has cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination held on May 3 following allegations of a paper leak and concerns over the fairness of the exam process. The decision was taken after reviewing inputs shared by central agencies and law enforcement authorities investigating the matter.

Around 22 lakh students appeared for the medical entrance exam this year, making it one of the largest competitive examinations in the country. The cancellation has now created uncertainty for lakhs of aspirants and their families.

In its official statement, the NTA said the examination “could not be allowed to stand” after considering the findings of the investigation. The agency added that the step was necessary “to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the examination system.”

‘Guess Paper’ Leak Under Investigation

The controversy began after investigators in Rajasthan found a handwritten “guess paper” that allegedly contained several questions matching the actual NEET exam paper. Officials suspect the material may have circulated before the examination through WhatsApp groups and coaching networks.

According to investigators, many Biology and Chemistry questions in the leaked material reportedly matched those asked in the final examination. Authorities are now examining whether the leak happened during the paper printing stage or through individuals linked to the question-setting process.

The Government of India has handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a detailed investigation.

Officials said the probe will focus on how the question paper circulated before the exam and whether any organised network was involved in the malpractice.

More Than 45 People Detained

Reports suggest that more than 45 people have been detained so far in connection with the investigation, especially in Rajasthan where the alleged “guess paper” first surfaced.

Investigators are examining digital evidence, social media chats, WhatsApp circulation chains, and links to coaching centres and student accommodations.

The NTA said it is fully cooperating with the investigation agencies and providing all required records, technical support, and examination-related data.

Fresh Exam Dates to Be Announced

The NTA confirmed that NEET UG 2026 will now be conducted again on fresh dates, which will be announced separately through official channels.

The agency clarified that students will not need to register again for the re-exam. Existing registration details and selected examination centres will remain valid.

“No additional examination fee will be charged,” the agency said, adding that fees already paid by candidates will be refunded. Fresh admit cards will also be issued before the new examination.
