A case of alleged religious conversion involving a Muslim woman has surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, where the family has accused a local man of luring her away and converting her religion. The matter has sparked political attention, with local Congress leaders demanding strict action under the state’s anti-conversion law.
The incident was reported from Partapur village in the Bibinagar area. The woman’s family recently met the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) along with Congress district president Ziaur Rahman and demanded action under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
Family Alleges Woman Was Lured and Converted
According to a complaint submitted to the police, the woman’s brother alleged that a man identified as Sonu, a resident of Partapur village, allegedly lured his sister and took her away.
Police had earlier registered a case at Bibinagar police station under Case No. 143/2026 under Section 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on the complaint.
The family has now alleged that the accused kept the woman under his protection and converted her religion. They also claimed that photos and content allegedly related to her marriage and religious conversion were being circulated on social media.
Calling it a “well-planned conspiracy,” the family said local police had failed to take action under the anti-conversion law despite being informed.
Demand for Action Under Anti-Conversion Law
The complainant has urged authorities to register a case under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, along with other relevant legal provisions, and sought strict action against those involved.
Congress district president Ziaur Rahman criticised the functioning of the local police and said the matter was a serious concern.
“This incident is worrying for a civilised society, and the police should take strict action against the accused,” he said. He also demanded that the victim’s family be allowed to meet the woman.
Police Order Probe
Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Singh said instructions had been issued to the Circle Officer (CO) of Syana to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action based on the findings.
