A fresh controversy has erupted after Uttar Pradesh-based Islamic preacher Maulana Jarjis Ansari made remarks about Lord Krishna during a religious gathering in Jharkhand, triggering protests and criticism from Hindu organisations.

Ansari, who hails from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh and has previously courted controversy over his public statements, claimed that Lord Krishna preached “Deen” (Islam) and offered prayers five times a day. His comments have gone viral on social media, drawing sharp reactions and calls for legal action.

What Did Maulana Jarjis Ansari Say?

According to reports, the remarks were made on June 23 during a religious gathering in Jharkhand.

Referring to a verse from the sixth chapter of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Ansari said, “If our Hindu brothers do not mind, then Krishna Ji also used to offer prayers five times a day. If you don’t believe it, read Chapter 6, Verse 10 of the Bhagavad Gita.”

He further claimed that the verse suggests worship should involve the entire body and argued that this resembled the Islamic method of prayer.

Explaining his interpretation, he said, “Krishna Ji tells Arjuna that when you worship God, do it with your entire body. Worship should not be done only while standing, but with the whole body.”

Remarks on Ram and Krishna Draw Criticism

During the same speech, Ansari also claimed that if Hindus studied their own scriptures carefully, they would develop an affection for Islam.

“Islam is not only the religion of Muslims; it is also theirs. This is what Ramchandra Ji and Krishna Ji also taught,” he said.

The remarks have been criticised by several Hindu organisations, which have accused the cleric of misrepresenting Hindu scriptures and hurting religious sentiments.

Following the circulation of the video, members of Hindu organisations have demanded the arrest of Maulana Zarjis Ansari, alleging that his comments were offensive and could disturb communal harmony.
