In anticipation of the “Border March” scheduled for April 7, the Ladakh Union Territory has taken precautionary measures in Leh district, including the imposition of Section 144 and a reduction in mobile internet speed to 2G.

District Magistrate Leh, Santosh Sukhdeva, issued an order on Friday imposing Section 144 of the CrPc 1973 in Leh district. According to the authorities, the decision was made in response to reliable police inputs indicating a potential breach of peace and public tranquillity in the district. The order prohibits processions, rallies, or marches without prior written approval from the District Magistrate. It also restricts the use of loudspeakers and prohibits public gatherings without prior authorization, warning of punitive action under Section 188 of the IPC for any violations.

The Leh administration has temporarily reduced mobile internet speed to 2G. According to an order issued by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ladakh, Shiv Darshan Singh, effective immediately, mobile data services, including 3G, 4G, 5G, and Public Wi-Fi facilities for 5G, will be scaled down to 2G in Leh. This reduction in internet speed will be enforced from 1800 hours on April 6, 2024, to 1800 hours on April 7, 2024.
