A rally was taken out against Israeli occupation in Gaza and Lebanon on Wednesday, in the Govandi  suburb of Mumbai. Following the protest, notices were issues against the organizers by Shivaji Nagar Police.

Several participants were seen rallying on roads. The protest was joined by many well known figures like Syed Babu advocate Ibrahim Shaikh meraj Ansari Javed Ahmed and Mohammad Irfan Mohammed Aslam. Protesters described Israel as a “tyrant and a murderer.” The protesters voiced their concerns over Israeli occupation, loss of life and property in Palestine and Lebanon and targeted attacks on places of worship and civilian areas.

Senior Inspector at the Shivaji Nagar police station Baburao Deshmukh said that no permission was taken which led to legal action by the police. He confirmed, “Eight people have been sent notices and 25 more people will be called for questioning.”

The protesters affirmed that they maintained peaceful protest and were only exercising their democratic rights.  Responding to the legal action against the protest Advocate Ibrahim affirmed his firm stand against injustice emphasizing that the constituent gives full rights to protest against injustice and gives full freedom of expression.  He said,”The moment I learnt about the police action I had to flee from my residence and to go over the details of the notice. In case we need any anticipatory bail we will ask the court.”
