The Rajasthan BJP government has issued a new directive regarding terms used for cows. The government has instructed that the term ‘Aawara’ (stray) be replaced with the more respectful term ‘destitute’ when referring to cows that roam the streets.

The Gopalan Department of the state government has issued the directive, which is addressed to all parties involved, including district collectors.

“Cows are an important part of our cultural heritage. In today’s time, due to various reasons, some cows become destitute. They are seen in helpless conditions on the streets or in other public places. It is inappropriate and derogatory to use the word stray for these cows. This is contrary to our cultural values. ‘Destitute’ is the correct word for the cows that roam freely. This terminology expresses sensitivity, respect, and compassion towards these cows,” reads the order issued by the government secretary of the department Dr. Samit Sharma.

According to a directive from the state administration, the term “stray” will no longer be used to refer to cows and other livestock in Rajasthan since it is “insulting” and “inappropriate.”

Words like “helpless” or “destitute” should be used to describe cows and other bovines that are left to fend for themselves.

According to news agency PTI, State Minister Joraram Kumawat declared earlier in July that cows in Rajasthan would no longer be referred to as “stray” and would instead be called “nirashit,” which means “destitute,”

Recently, there was a call in Rajasthan to grant the cow the position of state mother. In a letter to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, BJP MLA Gordhan Verma of Sikar demanded that cows be given the title of “State Mother” and that cow killers be put to death.
