The Allahabad High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing in the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah mosque dispute till August 25 after both sides jointly requested more time as mediation proceedings continue before the district court in Mathura.

Justice Avnish Saxena accepted the request and noted that the mediation process is underway following directions issued by the Supreme Court. The apex court has scheduled the next Lok Adalat proceedings in the matter from August 21 to August 23.

“It is jointly submitted that the mediation proceedings is continuing before the District Court, Mathura as per the directions of hon’ble Supreme Court. The next date fixed by apex court for Lok Adalat is from August 21 to August 23, 2026. As such, the case is adjourned as prayed,” the court observed.

Court Seeks Objections on Fresh Plea

During the hearing, one of the Hindu plaintiffs filed an application seeking directions to the Uttar Pradesh government and local administration to prevent any individual or group from entering the disputed site for meetings, religious gatherings or karya seva, claiming such activities could disturb public peace.

The High Court asked all parties to file their objections, if any, to the application before the next hearing.

Long-Running Temple-Mosque Dispute

The Krishna Janmabhumi-Shahi Idgah dispute concerns the Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura, which dates back to the Mughal era. Some Hindu petitioners claim the mosque was built during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb after demolishing a temple at the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

The Hindu side has filed 18 separate suits seeking possession of the disputed land, removal of the Shahi Idgah mosque structure, restoration of the alleged temple site, and a permanent injunction.

The matter is currently undergoing mediation under the supervision of the district court in Mathura as directed by the Supreme Court, while parallel legal proceedings remain pending before the Allahabad High Court.

The High Court will now hear the matter again on August 25 after reviewing the progress of the mediation process and considering objections filed by the parties.
